The Discovery School of Virginia serves teenage boys and girls who are experiencing emotional, behavioral, and learning problems. There are separate campuses for boys and girls. Each school is located in the picturesque Piedmont region of central Virginia.
The schools utilize a group problem solving process and the natural environment to foster a student's overall positive development. Referred students frequently are described as being immature, impulsive, angry, and oppositional. Often prospective students are experiencing failure in the traditional school setting. Due to their poor coping skills, enrolled students typically have a number of unresolved emotional and family issues; however, despite their difficulties, they are able to form supportive relationships and mature within the group setting provided at the school.
The Discovery School of Virginia is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Education, accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Education Facilities (VAISEF) and is a member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP) .
